ICFAI University conducts PhD Viva Voce, using Video Conferencing, for the first time

Ms. Richa Ritwika, one of the PhD Scholars of ICFAI University, Jharkhand, attended her Open Viva Voce through Video Conferencing. Topic for her thesis was “Employability of Post Graduate Management Students in Business Schools”.  After Viva Voce, she was declared eligible for the award of PhD Degree by the University.  The research thesis covered competencies needed for employment versus actuals from the fresh MBA graduates, from the perspectives of the teachers and industry recruiters.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Ritwika could not travel from Mumbai to Ranchi and hence the University decided to conduct the Viva Voce through Video Conferencing. External Examiners, Dr Ashish Bajpai, Professor at BHU, Varanasi and Dr Hareram Mohanty, former Dean, IBS, Bhubaneswar conducted the Viva Voce, from Varanasi and Bhubaneswar respectively. Vice- Chancellor, Registrar, Faculty members of the University, a number of PhD scholars and academicians participated in the Viva Voce from various locations across India.

Commenting on the Viva Voce, Prof O R S Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ICFAI University, Jharkhand said, “Our University is fully geared up to continue all academic and non-academic activities online, using latest technologies. Recently we conducted online Research Aptitude Test, using Remote Proctoring, driven by Artificial Intelligence, wherein candidates appeared for the test from 27 locations in India”. “We are planning to conduct Course Work-I classes for the selected PhD students, in Blended Learning Mode, using Course Material our Swaadhyay Portal, coupled with online classes”, added Prof Rao.
