Engineers’ Day was celebrated at ICFAI University, Jharkhand through Video Conferencing. Mr. Arun Kumar Agrawal, Director (Technical), MECON and Mr. G. K. Rathore, General Manager, Central Coalfields Limited, Mr. Sarojkant Singh, Deputy General Manager, McNally Bharat Engineering Company and Mr. Prem Prakash Dayal, Project Manager, TCS, Kolkata were the Guests of Honour for the function.
Welcoming the guests to the function, Prof O R S Rao , Vice-Chancellor of the ICFAI University. Jharkhand said, “We should pay homage not only to Bharat Ratna M Visvesvaraya but also to other great Engineers like Abdul Kalam, Satish Dhawan, K L Rao, Kurien Verghese etc, who made India proud.”. Referring to the clarion call given by Honourable Prime Minister for Atma Nirbhar Bharat during last Independence Day, Prof Rao said, “ In order to Make in India and Make for the World, India should build the requisite Competence (in terms of skills) and Competitiveness (In terms of both Cost and Time). Engineers should help in building the five pillars of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, namely Infrastructure, Technology, Demographic Dividend, Demand generation and Economy Boost”.
Highlighting the need to step up R &D, Mr. Arun Kumar Agrawal explained how MECON is studying the Steel Imports and working out a strategy to become self-sufficient. He exhorted the students to unleash innovation to address the challenges being faced in the current uncertain world.
Mr Rathore advised the Engineers to design products and services in such a way that they are available at affordable prices, without sacrificing quality, so as to boost demand for the same.
Students of the University show-cased the posters designed by them to explain the 5 Pillars of Atma Nirbhar Bharat along with their suggestions to strengthen each pillar . Awards of recognition were to the top 3 entries to Harshita (MBA-III), Fatima(BBA-LLB-V) and Ananya 9 BBA-V), respectively.
An online quiz program was conducted and the top 3 awards went to Shovona, Mayank and Rohit Respectively
Arti(BCA-V) anchored the event . Prof Arvind Kumar, Registrar proposed vote of thanks.

Students of ICFAI University, Jharkhand honour their teachers on e-Teachers’ Day function
Students of ICFAI University, Jharkhand honoured their teachers during the Virtual Teachers’ Day function held today. Before staring the program, homage was paid to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on whose birthday the function is held, Besides, rich tributes were paid to Late Pranab Mukherjee, Former President of India , who started his career as a college teacher and took pride in his teaching career. A variety of cultural programs like Singing, Dancing, Reciting Poems, Letter Plays etc were conducted by the students and alumni of the University , praising the contribution of Teachers to their personal and professional development .
Addressing the students and employees of the University, Prof O R S Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University said, “While Parents give Life to the children, it is the Teachers that give them a Meaningful Life, by imparting Knowledge and cultivating Character . All of us must be grateful to our respective teachers for “what we are today”. “Teachers should instill curiosity and critical thinking among the students. Besides, all Teachers must have passion for teaching and must teach from their hearts, rather than their minds”, added Prof Rao.
Awards of recognition were presented to the Teachers for their exemplary performance in Key Performance areas. Award for the best performance in Research Publications went to Dr Goutam Tanty . Prof Sumit Sinha and Mr Amar Gupta were given awards of recognition for their contribution to Social Outreach and Digital Support, respectively. The award for the Institution Building for 2019-20 was given to Dr Sudipta Majumdar for his contribution in building Digital Academic Delivery and Brand Building.
Prof Arvind Kumar, Registrar and Senior Faculty members, Dr Bhagbat Barik, Dr Rumna Bhattacharyya and Prof Mithilesh Mishra also addressed the audience. Ms Tannu Priya, MBA student of 2019 batch anchored the event.

ICFAI University conducts PhD Viva Voce, using Video Conferencing, for the first time
Ms. Richa Ritwika, one of the PhD Scholars of ICFAI University, Jharkhand, attended her Open Viva Voce through Video Conferencing. Topic for her thesis was “Employability of Post Graduate Management Students in Business Schools”. After Viva Voce, she was declared eligible for the award of PhD Degree by the University. The research thesis covered competencies needed for employment versus actuals from the fresh MBA graduates, from the perspectives of the teachers and industry recruiters.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Ritwika could not travel from Mumbai to Ranchi and hence the University decided to conduct the Viva Voce through Video Conferencing. External Examiners, Dr Ashish Bajpai, Professor at BHU, Varanasi and Dr Hareram Mohanty, former Dean, IBS, Bhubaneswar conducted the Viva Voce, from Varanasi and Bhubaneswar respectively. Vice- Chancellor, Registrar, Faculty members of the University, a number of PhD scholars and academicians participated in the Viva Voce from various locations across India.
Commenting on the Viva Voce,

University is fully geared up to continue all academic and non-academic
activities online, using latest technologies. Recently we conducted online
Research Aptitude Test, using Remote Proctoring, driven by Artificial
Intelligence, wherein candidates appeared for the test from 27 locations in
India”. “We are planning to conduct Course Work-I classes for the selected PhD students,
in Blended Learning Mode, using Course Material our Swaadhyay Portal, coupled
with online classes”, added Prof Rao.
